Wanna Play? Here’s the Rules and Instructions:

Everything (right now) runs thru the email: Joy_Road@yahoo.com

Folks,  I run the Rock N Roll Jam:  Low Country Edition.  This is essentially a crafted 3 hour jam, where we rotate about 20+ musicians/singers performing 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s classic pop/rock, together with a full Rock Band.  It’s all free, no one makes $$$ except the restaurant when people order food/drinks.  It is a heck of a lot of fun!

How it works:   Players (for example, a Drummer) will email me 2-3 songs that they’d like to perform (sometimes they pick from the “house list” – that gets emailed to them).  I compile a set list and then Email it back out to all the musicians/singers.

Over the next week-or-so, they sign up to fill-in the guitar/bass/sax/vocal parts for those songs.   We have a “core band” that fills in any remaining slots that didn’t get picked.  In the end, we get about 3 hours of pretty good rock n roll music.

Why it is so fun:  On the afternoon of the JAM (usually Sunday), everyone shows up knowing which songs they play and where they are in the setlist.  There are no practices.  no run-thrus.  The rest of the group expects you to know your part, in the right key, and we can (fairly) quickly move from song-to-song, so there isn’t a lot of boring dead-time for the audience (mostly players and friends of players).  We had over 120 folks watching last time…   There are A LOT of good musicians that play at this, so the music quality is pretty good.  There isn’t any solo performers, slow-twangy country songs, or ballads of any kind – this is all straight-up Rock & Roll.

If you are curious:  Take a watch the youtubes on the Past Jam Videos Page.

If you are interested in joining in the JAMs (watching, singing, or playing), just send me an email: joy_road@yahoo.com, and I’ll add you to our email list. Please tell me if you sing, play, and if you want, what you feel your skill level is (few years, pretty good, all my life, retired pro, I taught Richie Blackmore how to shred, whatever…)
